NO BAKE COOKIES

Mix in pan: 1/3 c. cocoa

      2  c. sugar
      few grains salt

Add and heat to boil: 1/2 c. margarine

                     1/2  c. milk

Take off heat & melt in: 1/2 c. peanut butter Stir in & let cool 5 min. 1 tsp. vanilla

                         2 1/2  c. oatmeal

Spoon onto waxpaper until completely cool.

	CHOCOLATE CHEWS

1/2 c. shortening 2 tsp. baking powder 1 2/3 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 2 tsp. vanilla 1/3 c. milk 2 eggs * 1/2 c. black walnuts, chopped 2 (1oz) sq. chocolate, melted 1/2 c. confectioners sugar, sifted 2 c. sifted flour * Optional

Cream shortening, sugar, and vanilla. Beat in eggs, then chocolate. Sift dry ingredients. Add alternately with milk. Stir in nuts. Chill 2 - 3 hours. Form into 1 in. balls and roll in confectioners sugar. Bake on greased pan at 350 about 20 minutes. Makes about 4 dozen.

	PEANUT BLOSSOMS

1 3/4 c. flour 1/2 c. peanut butter 1 tsp. soda 1 egg 1/2 tsp. salt 2 T. milk 1/2 c. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 c. brown sugar 48 milk chocolate candy kisses 1/2 c. shortening

Combine all ingredients except candy in large mixer bowl. MIx at lowest speed of mixer until dough forms. Shape dough into balls using rounded teaspoonfuls for each cookie. Roll balls in sugar; place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for 10 - 12 min. Top each cookie immediately with a candy kiss; press down firmly so cookie cracks around the edge. Bake for another 5 min. Makes 48 cookies.


	FORGOTTEN COOKIES

2 egg whites dash of salt 2/3 c. sugar 1 pkg. chocolate chips 1 c. nuts, chopped Preheat oven to 400. Beat egg whites with salt until soft peaks form. Add sugar, a small amount at a time.; beat until stiff peaks form. Fold in chocolate chips and nuts. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto well-greased cookie sheets. Place in oven: turn off heat. Leave overnight: do not open oven door. Yield: 60 large cookies.

Also good with crushed candy cane instead of chocolate and nuts.

	STARLIGHT MINT COOKIES

Sift together: 3 c. flour 1 tsp. soda

       1/2  tsp. salt

Cream: 1 c. butter (half shortening may be used): add gradually

       1  c.  sugar
       1/2  c. brown sugar,  creaming well.

Blend in: 2 eggs, unbeaten

       2  T. water
       1  tsp. vanilla:  beat well.

Add dry ingredients; mix thoroughly. Cover and regrigerate at least

       2 hours. 

Open: 1 pkg. solid chocolate mint candy wafers (Can use Andes mints).

       enclose each wafer in about 1 T. of chilled dough.

Place: on greaded baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Top: each with a walnut half. Bake: 375 for 10 - 12 minutes.

	CONFETTI COOKIES	

1 c. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1/2 c. brown sugar 1 tsp. soda 1 c. shortening 1 c. cut-up small gum drops 2 eggs (Use red & green for Christmas) 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 c. nuts, chopped 21/3 c. flour Cream….sugars, shortening, eggs and vanilla. Mix……….flour, salt, & soda to blend. Add……..dry ingredients to creamed mixture and mix well. Sitr in…..gumdrops and nuts. Mix well. Drop……by teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheet. Dot tops with additional cut-up gum drops, if desired. Bake….at 350 for 15 minutes. Yield…..5 - 6 dozen cookies.

  	GINGER SNAPS                           Joan Hess

1 c. brown sugar 3/4 c. shortening 1/4 c. molasses 1 egg Beat together. Add: 2 1/4 c. flour 1 tsp. gr. ginger 2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. cloves 1 tsp. gr. cinamon 1/4 tsp. salt Mix. Chill. Roll into balls. Roll in sugar. Bake on greased pan at 375 for 10 - 12 min.

	SOFT JUMBLES                          Winifred Comfort

1 c. shortening 1 tsp. baking powder 2 c. sugar 1 tsp. salt 2 eggs 1 c. sour milk 3 3/4 c. flour 2 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. soda

Cream shortening; add sugar gradually. Add eggs & beat. Stift dry ingredients and add alternately with sour milk. Drop on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 for 12 - 15 min.

(Note: Grandma Comfort topped cookies with chocolate chips, raisins, cinnamon red hearts, or coconut).

	SNICKERDOODLES

Mix together thoroughly: 1 c. shortening 1 1/2 c. sugar 2 eggs Sift together and stir in: 2 3/4 c. flour 2 tsp. cream of tartar 1 tsp. soda Chill dough. Roll into balls the size of small walnuts. Roll into mixture of 2 T. sugar and 2 tsp. cinnamon. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreases baking sheet. Bake until lightly brown…but still soft. (These cookies puff up at first…then flatten out with crinkled tops). bake at 400 for 8 - 10 min. Yield: 5 dozen 2 in. cookies.
